Rocky platforms along ocean beaches can be very dangerous places. At times the waves can easily sweep people off the platform causing them to be injured or even drowned.

You must always stay well back from any waves crashing onto rocks.

Many rockpools are in sheltered areas and will not be hit by large ocean waves. But even in sheltered areas, an adult should always be with children when they visit rockpools.

As a rule it is best to never have your back to the sea. If you always face the sea, there is a better chance of seeing a large wave coming.
