How do students normally cooperate in their class? This leadership program must provide students with a very high expectation concerning their contribution to each other and their project. As their teacher you may wish to allow students to work in groups of their choosing. However, will they learn as much compared to their being challenged to form more creative groups?
Consider asking students to identify their skills, learning and presentation strengths.
Once they have provided their information, form groups that have a full range of the different student talents.
Make sure students are aware they will be assessed on the way they contribute to the project. Review what is required of students when working in groups. Use reflection activities for students to think about how they contribute to the dynamics of the class. Use self-assessment to measure students’ self-esteem as part of the process.
