Monster Antarctic glacier is melting faster than expected

Australian geoscience researchers are investigating one of the largest glaciers. It takes up a massive chunk of Antarctica and in places could be a kilometres thick. Using aircraft and high tech gear they surveyed 150,000 square kilometres of Totten Glacier.

Scientists have been checking out how fast this glacier is melting.  They discovered some of the water from the sea may be tunneling underneath the glacier speeding up its melting. Don’t panic yet! It will only add a few millimetres to the sea level over the next few decades. However there is enough ice in this monster glacier to raise the sea level by at least three metres. It’s so big it would take many centuries to melt.
