Role of port authorities in pollution response

A port together with the maritime safety authority and the State environment protection agency or authority must have oil and chemical pollution response plans. They have teams of people and equipment available to respond to any oil and chemical pollution in the port or within the harbour area.
The job can be contracted out to oil companies or tanker terminals that will have this equipment for their own use.
