Protecting rockpools

Many rockpools near popular beaches have lost most of their seaweeds and animals. These are some of the things we can all do to make sure that rockpools keep their seaweeds and animals:

  • Avoid walking on living seaweed.
  • Walk do not run through pools and on the rocks.
  • Do not pull seaweeds or animals from the rocks.
  • Never remove animals from their homes.
  • If it is safe to handle an animal make sure your hands are clean and wet and return it back to its home quickly.
  • Leave interesting shells around the rockpools as many animals might want to use them.
  • Only ever turn a few rocks over and make sure the rocks are returned to their exact position.
  • Take your rubbish home.
