Handling creatures

Many of the rockpool animals can be injured if you try and handle them. Never try to pull animals away from the rocks when they are stuck to them.

A plastic spaghetti spoon is useful for picking up free moving animals and scratching through seaweed looking for marine life.

If you turn rocks over, only turn a few over and always return them to the same position in which you found them.

Remember that some animals like crabs can give you a painful nip or bite. A few animals are poisonous and even deadly.

Never remove animals from their rockpools.

So only touch animals that you are sure can’t hurt you and you can’t hurt them
