Oops washing the drivewaywashes dirt into the stormwater

Using a hose can cause dirt, leaves or detergent being washed into the stormwater drain. Under current water conservation regulations it is illegal to use a hose to wash down driveways and paths except in an emergency.

  • If a hose is used to wash down driveways and paths most of the dirty water will go down the drain.
  • When cars are washed on driveways, the detergent, grease and grime is likely to go down the drain.
  • If gardens are over- watered using sprinklers, the soil and fertilisers can also be washed down the drain.
