It is difficult to work out which pipes are sewerage and stormwater

Sometimes the sewerage pipes in our homes are incorrectly connected to the stormwater pipes. This happens when homeowners mess around with their plumbing, often resulting in the waste from the bathroom, toilet, laundry and kitchen not getting treated - eventually it will pollute a river or the sea.

Sometimes people incorrectly connect the stormwater pipes to the sewerage pipes. This can also be disastrous. When too much water enters the sewerage pipes there can be an overflow. This is why plumbers are the only people allowed to work on stormwater and sewerage pipes.

Did you know homes in towns are connected to two separate piping systems?
