Waste from fishers

Fishers (this is the name given to people who go fishing) are often divided into two groups. Some fishers fish for a living. The other fishers do it for recreation. 30 years ago it was common practice for all fishers to dump their waste overboard. Professional fishers would also dump their old damaged nets they no longer wanted.

Now most fishers return their rubbish and damaged fishing gear to land. There are fines for those who are caught dumping their waste in the sea. Any fishing gear dumped or lost at sea can injure and kill wildlife and sometimes damage boats.
