How does it happen?

Side entry pit

Many forms of pollution that used to be caused by factories and mines have been cleaned up. Factories and mines have to show how they prevent pollution. When they do cause pollution, they can often be tracked down and can be fined very heavily. Sometimes the owner or person responsible may go to jail.

But there is still a lot of pollution reaching the sea. How is it getting there?

  • Urban stormwater drains
  • Stormwater and sewerage system
  • Where the pollution starts
  • From farm to sea
  • Our rivers cop it too
