What is an audience

The audience is the group of people that you want to communicate with. People who work in the area of marketing call this the target group.

Examples of general audiences that students might produce communication products for are:

  • Students, teachers and other people in the school community.
  • The families of students.
  • The people in the local community.

Examples of more specific audiences are:

  • Car owners.
  • People using public transport.
  • People who ride surf boards.
  • Families that visit the beach.
  • People who live very close to the coast.
  • Dog owners who use the beach with their dogs.
  • Shoppers.

So who do you want to communicate with to achieve your goals?
