Local newspapers

Create a press release to be sent to your local newspapers. Things to be considered when creating a press release:

  • It should be no more than a page.
  • It should have an interesting heading.
  • The first sentence should describe why the topic is interesting.
  • Explain the issue and include how you think people can help.
  • Explain why you as students believe the issue is important.
  • Suggest what will make an interesting photograph.
  • Provide contact details (this might be a teacher or another adult).

For a student to be photographed in a local newspaper, parental or guardian permission will be required. Most school policies will require that students’ full names are not published.
