The things that will be swept first into the stormwater drain when it rains are the materials lying in the gutter. You can:
  • Pick up litter lying in the gutters and place the litter in a rubbish bin.
  • Sweep up the leaves, grass and dirt in the gutter outside your home and shovel it into a compost bin or garden bed.
  • After the lawn has been cut, sweep the gutters and place the lawn clippings and leaves in a compost heap, compost bin or on a garden bed.
  • When soil is delivered to your home, make sure it can't spill into the gutter and all the soil is removed and the last bit swept or raked up.
