Ports and the Marine Environment
Students will be surprised at the many layers of people and types of transport that are required to get their favourite gizmo from where it is made overseas to their local shop. They will learn about the role of ports, types of ships visiting Australian ports, safety and environmental issues and the organisations required to operate a port. They will also learn about the many fascinating machines used in ports.
A port can have a large impact on the marine environment and must take a number of precautions to ensure its operations do not harm the marine environment.
Ports are equally essential for the Australian economy, being the interface between ships importing or exporting cargo and the land transport system.
