A coral reef with its colourful abundance of wildlife is one of the most spectacular displays of life we will ever enjoy. The Great Barrier Reef is the largest series of reefs in the world. It stretches from Papua New Guinea in the north to almost as far as Fraser Island in the south. The west coast of Australia has equally impressive coral reefs.
This is the most complex ecosystem in the sea and it depends on one of the simplest of all animals, the coral polyp.
