Students from Southern Cross Catholic College in Scarborough help to monitor water quality on the Great Barrier Reef
Schools are full of smart people (that includes the students), but they are very busy. When schools take time to reduce their energy, they come up with clever ideas that result in some big energy savings. In many schools, it’s the students who are leading the environmental changes. These are some of the things that you and your school can do:
- Join Reef Guardians or Coral Watch
- Have a program to turn off lights and computers when they are not needed
- Have most computers set to sleep modes that reduces the energy they consume
- With the help of an expert, find out which fittings around the school could be changed to save energy
- Audit the lights in the classrooms and remove unnecessary tubes
